ABOUT THE ARTIST: SHEMO
Born in Cebu to a Waray mother and Cebuano father, Sheila's formative years were spent in the Philippines' art capital, Angono, Rizal. Growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sierra Madre Mountains and Laguna Lake, she developed a deep-rooted love for nature and art.
Her childhood memories are filled with idyllic scenes: biking along the shores of Laguna de Bay, watching breathtaking sunsets, playing in rice fields, and hiking through the majestic landscapes of the town. These experiences ignited a desire to capture the beauty she witnessed.
Though she often sketched and doodled as a child, a lack of guidance hindered her development. However, art remained a constant presence in her life. She pursued photography, embarked on mountain hikes, and immersed herself in art museums, always yearning for creative expression.
A pivotal moment arrived when she met a group of Rizal-based artists, including Kuya Erni Salmon Grande, who became a significant mentor. Inspired by his encouragement, she began her artistic journey at the age of 45. She attended workshops, embraced pastel painting, and joined the Philippine Pastel Artist Inc.
The pandemic, though challenging, provided an opportunity for introspection and artistic growth. Confined to her home, Sheila dedicated herself to her craft, producing a wealth of artwork.
This website not only showcases her work but also chronicles her artistic journey. She dedicates this space to Kuya Erni, whose guidance and encouragement were instrumental in her artistic endeavors.
MESSAGE FROM THE ARTIST:
